Robert Indiana (1928- 2018), is an American icon both in art and pop-culture. This has been true for Indiana since the mid 1960s. Robert played a transformative role in mediums and genres, specially "assemblage art, hard-edge painting and pop-art." Many of today's fine artists who rely on the written word appropriate his thoughts in their own works. Indiana works were original and remain available as such. Derivatives and multiples created by Indiana furthered his career. As his own biography indicates he was fascinated by "exploring the American identity, personal history, and the power of abstraction and language."
