The historic photograph of President Harry Truman holding the Chicago paper proclaiming his defeat ("Dewey defeats Truman") defines political upsets. Truman was down in the polls and came from behind to beat Dewey and preserve the Democrats hold on the White House. Everyone had counted him out which lead to the Chicago Daily's erroneous headline. |
