Arless Day builds the best of all possible worlds in his collage-paintings of pastoral architecture, landscapes, and interiors. Unlike many collagists who create fantastic scenes, this artist's work does not stray too far from reality-at least at first glance.

Some of the settings seem familiar-Venice, Rome, London, or the American South-but Arless Day's images are decidedly different. They do not exist in actuality, only in the vision of a man who cuts pictures from magazines and books for a living, then creates his new reality with wildly colorful paint He masters the details first and the big picture later. You can see it for yourself. Up close, his painted collages are a maze of jagged lines from paper photographic images, splashed with brilliant paint colors. From a distance, they are remarkable.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Arless Day is an artist who began as an editorial illustrator. When this became too confining, he evolved into a master of collage. Day says about his work, "I'm not giving the viewer a vision of how it really looks, only my interpretation of a place where it may exist!" He has studied the works of the great masters, the French Impressionists, the Post-impressionists of the 19th century, and more contemporary artists like David Hockney. Yet Day's collages are definitely his own.

The dream world Mr. Day creates sparks joy, delight, and whimsy in the observer. We encounter a series of points of view that create a panoramic passage from expansive interiors to syncopated vistas and back again. We receive an idea of the artist's world through a window conceived and created by this innovative mind of a man imbued with a spirit of life experienced.

Educated at Ringling School of Art, Mr. Day has had numerous solo selling exhibitions in South Carolina, North Carolina, Oregon, Georgia, Tennessee, New York and Louisiana. He has participated in group selling exhibitions throughout the United States including New York, Florida, and Illinois as well as internationally in London and New Zealand. His work is in public and private collections throughout the United States including IBM Corporation, Raleigh, N.C. and AT&T, Atlanta, GA.

GALLERY M is pleased to exclusively represent Arless Day in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region.
